January 14, 2009 - Yokogawa Corporation of America has been selected as the distributed control system for the new Pit Disassembly and Conversion Facility (PDCF) in Aiken, SC.

Managed by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), the PDCF facility will convert weapons grade plutonium and uranium into fuel rods to be used for electrical power generation. The production process is scheduled to be operational in 2019.

“We are honored to have been selected for this forward-thinking project,” said David Johnson, President & CEO. “It ties in closely with many of Yokogawa’s philosophies and our commitment to our customers in the Power industry. This project is an excellent opportunity to showcase how our cutting-edge technologies can work with the environment to benefit the economy and our lives. We hope to contribute to making the PDCF a world-class facility that will achieve top operational performance with lowest life cycle cost.”

Under the contract, Yokogawa will provide balance-of-plant processes through its CENTUM VP (DCS) technology, application engineering and start-up and support services for the project over the next 20-plus years.
