Invensys achieves SIL-2 rating for pressure transmitters

2025China.cn   2008年10月16日
October 16, 2008 -- Invensys Process Systems announced that the company's five most popular Foxboro HART version pressure transmitters are now SIL 2-certified by TÜV Rheinland, and all IPS differential, gauge and absolute pressure transmitters meet the new Canada CEC/NEC Dual Seal certification.

"Our customers are requiring higher levels of safety to reduce the risks of human injury, property damage and environmental impact," said Brian Dickson, IPS Vice President of Field Devices. "By offering solutions incorporating SIL 2 TÜV-certified transmitters with Triconex systems, the number one safety systems solution, IPS provides clients with a very attractive option to meet their health, safety and environmental objectives."

SIL 2 Transmitter Certification
The company's five most popular HART version pressure transmitters now meet the SIL 2 TÜV Certification set by TÜV Rheinland. This certification is awarded in part on Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) numbers and calculated failure rates. The SFF rating is key to the certification and IPS' new SIL 2 TÜV certified pressure transmitters surpass the 90 percent rating that TÜV Rheinland commonly requires for qualification for use in safety instrumented systems (SIS) at the SIL 2 level. Further, the "mean time before failure" (MTBF) rating of the SIL 2 TÜV Rheinland certified Foxboro pressure transmitters is 200 years, far ahead of competitive offerings.

SIL 2-certified transmitters are now available on both remote and closed-coupled sealed standard performance options of the Foxboro HART IAP10 and IAP20 absolute pressure transmitters and on IGP10 and IGP20 gauge transmitters.

"The introduction of these SIL certified transmitters is a great benefit to our clients. A Triconex safety instrumented system equipped with Foxboro transmitters can bring new efficiencies and savings in terms of system design, commissioning time and ongoing maintenance. The SIL 2 certification from TÜV Rheinland is also an advantage on its own because all clients in the safety automation market understand respect the stringent process required to attain this certification," said Luis Duran, IPS Portfolio Marketing Director for Safety and Critical Control.

CEC Dual Seal Transmitter Certification
IPS also announced that all IPS differential, gauge and absolute pressure transmitters are now compliant with recent 2008 amendments in the CEC to conform with the ANSI/ISA 12.27.01 standard, "Requirements for Process Sealing Between Electrical Systems and Flammable or Combustible Process Fluids." This standard requires back-up seals or equivalent protection for pressure transmitters and other devices to safely separate flammable process fluids from process electrical equipment.

IPS is the first leading instrumentation supplier to offer Dual Seal certification on its complete line of differential, gauge and absolute pressure transmitters. This means that IPS clients can achieve CEC Dual Seal safety in flammable process fluid environments, with confidence and compliance, and without the cost of separate, secondary sealing methods.

"We were able to attain certification so quickly because all of our secondary seals and venting are designed and built into each transmitter," said Pat Cupo, IPS Pressure Product Line Manager. "This facilitates the testing necessary to achieve the certification and can result in savings of up to $400 per transmitter by eliminating the need to purchase third-party seals and vents."

The CEC regulations require all Canadian companies purchasing or installing new pressure transmitters or retrofitting existing devices to install dual-seal-certified protection. I/A Series transmitters from IPS are currently the only CEC dual-seal-certified transmitters available off the shelf.
