ABB will design, manufacture, test, supply and provide technical direction on-site for an expansion of seven gas insulated switchgear (GIS) circuit breaker positions, including a gas insulated bus (GIB) for new line exit connections, and a provision of interfaces for existing GIS substations, including interfaces to non-ABB GIS substations.
The ABB high-voltage products that will be used in these Hydro One substations – including dead-tank circuit breakers manufactured in Mount Pleasant, PA, USA, and gas-insulated switchgear manufactured in Oerlikon, Switzerland – are designed to meet the challenging demands of 550kV system application and 80kA fault current interrupting capability:
“ABB’s global technology leadership position in high voltage switchgear products and related services helps utilities like Hydro One to meet their customers’ increasing needs for highly reliable, efficient electric power,” said Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB Power Products Division and member of the Executive Committee. “These products are available to meet a variety of demanding technical and environmental requirements and have been successfully applied in all regions of the world.”
This contract was signed in the second quarter of 2008.
ABB is a global leader in gas insulated switchgear products and has been a market leader in introducing new technologies and advanced ratings such as 80kA, synchronous controlled switching and remote real-time condition monitoring. ABB has developed a 1000kV GIS for the Chinese market and planned to be in operation by the end of the year. Continuous quality improvement and significant research and development investment ensure that ABB will continue to provide quality, performance and flexibility.
ABB () is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 115,000 people.
